The residents of Calamvale, just south of Brisbane, are amongst the first people in Australia to witness a new era of play.
The new “SkyWalk” project is an exciting new play precinct which was officially opened on Australia Day 2012 and is already captivating the local kids. Architecturally designed by German manufacturer COROCORD, and in collaboration with Brisbane-based Urban Play, the 10 meter high equipment consists of 4 “sky cabins” which are connected by free-standing rope bridges which quite literally, reach to the skies.
“The idea of the structure is for kids to scramble up to the Sky Cabins via vertical, tunnel-shaped rope nets or an adjoining Spacenet and shuffle through the swaying suspended paths until they escape out through the enclosed 11m twisted slide, a just reward for a strenuous climb,” says Sue Simpson, Managing Director of KOMPAN Australia.
Nestled into the magnificent bush surroundings, the equipment blends into the environment with its colours and tree-like dynamic. The SkyWalk cabin incorporates traditional tree climbing functionalities which tap into every child’s innate desire to conquer the natural world around them. A sense of achievement and freedom greet the users at the top as at a towering 10 meters high, children can roam around freely as the equipment is entirely secure but also transparent so that watching parents can look on.
With this product there is minimum maintenance required, so expect to see many more SkyWalk play systems appearing in parks around Australia.
