DUBAI’S SUSTAINABLE CITY IS FIRST OF ITS KIND

The city will be located on a 46 ha plot in Dubai and will include 550 residential equipped with villas equipped with solar panels, which will provide residents with 60 per cent of their energy needs.  Residents of the community can enjoy a sustainable transport system consisting of solar energy powered electric vehicles.

The project will also feature a smart water system that will reduce the water demand of buildings by 30 per cent and grey and waste water will be used to irrigate plants across the city. There will also be a waste recycling system. The city will rely on natural biodome greenhouses, organic farms and individual garden farms for local food production.

To ensure environmental standards are maintained, the city will also include a Sustainable Engineering and Research Institute and Training Centre for sustainable practises, as well as a nature inspired ‘Green School’.

For touristic and recreational purposes, there will be a Planetarium and a grass amphitheatre for events as well as a variety of sport and leisure facilities such as a Community Centre, Country Club and an Equestrian Club as well as biking and shaded jogging trails across the city and a Mosque for worship.

Baharash Architecture won the international design competition for the development of phase 2 of the project which is set to commence in July this year.

With all social, economic and cultural practises integrated in this environmental project, not only will it prove to be an enduring legacy for Dubai, but will surely not be one of a kind for long.
