SIPS INDUSTRIES BUILD BIG

SIP’s Industries scooped the top gong for their innovative and practical insulated panels at DesignBUILD held in Perth Exhibition Centre, WA on 3-5 November.

Exhibition Director Danielle Fischer said judges were impressed with the application of the panels, particularly relevant given the industry trade skills shortage.

“The SIP’S insulated panels are prefabricated meaning installation requires less skilled training, making them more efficient to build with particularly compared to concrete or bricks,” Danielle Fischer commented.

“With a booming population and unprecedented demand on the building and construction sector. It’s innovative products like these that will heavily assist the industry to continue delivering construction projects despite the skills shortage,” Danielle said.

Finalists for the 2010 DesignBUILD Commercial Best New Product Award also included:

• Garantia for Lilo - a revolutionary underground water harvesting tank
• Vacuum Toilets Australia for Jets Vacuum Toilet – water saving, retrofit capable and diversely adaptable
• Composite Materials Australia for Passport decking – high performing environmental properties (fireproof, recyclable, no trees involved), as well as being low maintenance and strong.

The DesignBUILD Commercial expo showcases over 80% of Australian exhibitors and all exhibitors must meet Australian Building Standards.

The expo has a strong focus on highlighting new and innovative products, with Innovation Alley being a key part of the expo.
“Innovation Alley is the welcoming point into the expo – it’s a real showcase of how hard the industry is working to innovate for more sustainable and better building outcomes and we’re proud to provide a dedicated platform to that cause,” said Ms Fischer.

Guest judge Leigh Bird from Landstream said “The industry has been turning more and more to prefabricated materials to build and the fact that these panels are light weight should reduce the cost of installation significantly,”
