WASTE LESS, RECYCLE MORE
3 February 2016
The Hills Bark Blower Company has received a grant to develop site-based learning opportunities throughout NSW to increase awareness around smart compost applications.
The Hills BARK BLOWER Company, in conjunction with Roads and Maritime Services and Penelope’s Garden, has received a Waste Less, Recycle More Organics Market Development Grant funded by the NSW EPA.
The grant will facilitate educational events to be conducted in order to increase awareness around and implementation of compost blankets/Ecoblanket for erosion control, revegetation and rehabilitation of roadways. The objectives will encompass both newly constructed and existing roadways, together with reducing soil erosion on construction sites throughout NSW.
The series of site-based learning events will be held at three different venues across NSW throughout 2016. The sites will be located in the Hunter region, the Illawarra/Southern NSW region, and the Sydney Metropolitan Area to ensure accessibility for a broad range of attendees. A field day to view established job sites is also scheduled for September.
There has been extensive research on compost blankets/Ecoblanket in Australian, as well as other countries. However, understanding how to specify compost for this use, and why it’s so successful when done correctly, is not widespread within the influential industries. The planned educational events are designed to improve knowledge and application of best practice through 'site-based learning'.
