ART AND ABOUT CELEBRATES PRIVACY IN PUBLIC

Art and About is a joyous celebration of Sydney’s creativity. It’s an invitation to get out and look at public spaces in a new way.
This year, Art and About Sydney will be celebrating private lives in public places from September 20 until October 20, 2013. Among the various exciting events in the program, there will be a field of mirrors in Hyde Park, colourful snails throughout the CBD, live street art and sculptural walks.
Hyde Park will appear as never before with a large field of mirrors creating surreal and intriguing visions. This art installation “Field” is a celebration of the park and a meditation on perspective, encouraging you to question and reflect on which is real and which is image.
Throughout the festival and located in various popular locations around Sydney CBD (including Martin Place, Customs House, The State Library of NSW and Pitt Street) will be the giant, colourful artwork series “Snailovation”. Created by international artistic collecting Cracking Art Group, each of the 24 vibrant snails creates a playful and intriguing surprise on city streets and parks. The giant snails are made entirely from recyclable materials, becoming an inspiring reminder of the importance of environmental awareness and action.
For sculpture lovers, you can take part in the inaugural “Sculpture Walk” held at the Royal Botanical Garden in Sydney in conjunction with Artisans in the Gardens. Using steel, bamboo, timer, string and plastic, a diverse range of contemporary artists address the beauty of our environment and its vulnerability in work that is such and playful. All sculptures are for sale with proceeds supporting projects of Artisans in the Gardens.
Featuring the work of celebrated contemporary Australian street artists Adnate, Jodee Knowles, Numskull and Rone, “Project Five Volume Five” will transform Darling Quarter’s Village Green into a free open-air studio as the artists paint before a live audience. The live painting weekend launches on Friday 27th September from 6pm- 9pm and continues on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th from 12pm – 3pm, complimented by the atmospheric musical layering of various DJ artists.
