THORNY DEVIL

This steel reinforced fibreglass sculpture is able to be climbed on by children, the sharp points to the piece having been rounded off whilst still appearing to be “spikey”.

The piece is not painted but has been negatively coloured in a build-up of semi-translucent gelcoat layers, which was then heavily reinforced with fibreglass whilst still in its silicone mould. This technique “bakes” the colour deep into the laminate and is a superior finish to traditionally painted fibreglass sculptures.

Natureworks is currently also sculpting an 8 metre prehistoric megalania, the giant monitor which was a major land predator of the Australian continent in the pleistocene era. This piece will provide a great focal point for a local council playground, also currently being developed by Natureworks.
