QUEENSTOWN EVENTS CENTRE

Led by Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC), the project was completed in late March and delivered by longtime Rebound Ace-approved contractor Hardwood Technology. The resurfacing replaces the facility’s original asphalt courts, lifting the playing standards for everyday users and organised sport alike.

The previously asphalt surfaces were overlayed with ICP Group’s Rebound Ace HSA system – an advanced cushioned acrylic surface known for its safety, comfort, superior UV resistance and all-weather durability. This upgrade marks a substantial improvement for the Queenstown Events Centre, ensuring it remains fit for purpose as demand for high-quality facilities continues to grow.

Rebound HSA system uses a 4mm prefabricated rubber shock pad, which provides up to 15% force reduction for participants.  The mat is designed to cushion the shock impacts on ankles, knees, hips and other joints, and has been proven to greatly reduce lower leg and mussel injuries, typically associated with playing physically demanding sports like netball.

A fibreglass overlay was installed on two of the courts, which will also be open for public use, providing a greater level of reliance for the multitude of activities likely to take place on the surface.

The Rebound Synpave topcoat in Grass Green and Byron Blue offers a vibrant, slip-resistant finish that exceeds requirements for outdoor sports, such as netball and multisport, for any weather conditions, including when wet.

After a seven-week closure to allow for its installation, the courts reopened to the public in early April, welcoming back netballers, tennis players and enthusiasts of a variety of outdoor sports.

Ahead of the works, QLDC Community Venues Team Leader Deborah Husheer said the resurfacing was a much-needed upgrade that was bound to excite the Queenstown community. “This upgrade ensures our facilities keep up with the demands of community sport.”

Now complete, the courts offer a professional-standard facility that supports participation at every level, from casual games to competitive fixtures. School groups, local clubs and sporting organisations all stand to benefit from the redevelopment, which forms part of QLDC’s ongoing investment in quality sporting infrastructure for their growing community.
