CREATIVE EXPRESSION AND FUNCTIONAL DESIGN CONVERGE

Urban+ gives Kenmore a facelift with some exciting new street furniture and artistically rendered balustrades that chronicle the historical activities of this Brisbane City area.
Urban+ Fountains & Furniture were commissioned by Brisbane City Council along with creative artist Pamela Denise, to manufacture and supply the original artwork incorporated into the street balustrades in Kenmore as part of their Urban Community Renewal Project.
The unique design of the balustrades chronicles the change in the modes of transport used along the busy stretch of road in Kenmore that was once just a dirt track. The artwork used depicts footprints from the Indigenous lifestyle, to horse and cart, to today’s frantic buses and cars that whizz along the street, while still retaining the relationship with the surrounding natural beauty and wildlife of the area.
The balustrades used in Kenmore were made from galvanised 10mm flat bar steel. The unique art work was laser cut in 8mm steel plate, galvanised and powdercoated before a protective anti-graffiti coating was applied.
Urban+ was approached to undertake this work due to their extensive history of working in close collaboration with architects, artists and designers to help bring their concepts to life and make them a structural reality. Urban+ has an impeccable reputation for producing quality custom work on unique projects within specified time and budget constraints.
As part of this project, Urban+ also provided bench seats, stainless drinking fountains, bike racks and coloured concrete stools to be installed alongside the balustrades. All of these products were produced to BCC standards.
