UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY SYDNEY

In collaboration with Aspect Studios, Street + Garden delivered outdoor furniture for the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) greenspace project in three stages, spanning from late-2013 to 2014. The Alumni Green consists of a large grassed area that acts as a central gathering place for the university community, bordered by steel seating, and smaller intimate garden pods outlined by timber and steel seating, providing spaces for social or study activities.

CONSIDERATIONS

The seating design incorporates a custom faceted lasercut pattern and was developed into a modular system to allow for ease of delivery and partial assembly onsite. Materials include fabricated mild steel with vibrant green and fresh white powdercoat finishes and spotted gum timber battens with an oiled finish.

OPPORTUNITIES

Street + Garden was given the opportunity to develop the design, which was conceptualised by Aspect Studios. This presented a productive method of collaborating with the client to ensure the design could be developed in a way that was cost-effective, simple to manufacture and install, and in keeping with the original design intent. The inspiration and rationale behind this design is unique to the site and has become an integral part of the site identity.
