SCENIC AMENITY AND HIGHWAY ACOUSTIC BUFFER
The Scenic Amenity and Highway Acoustic Buffer/South Drainage Channel (SAHAB) is the largest acoustic buffer to be built in southeast Queensland and with a minimum of 90 percent planting success across the mound, sets the new standard in infrastructure noise management. Planting was supported with a specific blend of fertilisers to give the plants the best chance of surviving the incredibly harsh condition experienced on both the east and western sides of the mound.
Tubestock Nursery Australia was contracted to supply 86,540 plants to the SAHAB project developed by Avid Property Group for the Harmony Estate. All of the plant stock has been grown specifically adhering to the outlined Pre-grow contract developed with the Environmental Conservation Specialist and the client.
The SAHAB runs parallel to the M1 at Sippy Downs on the Sunshine Coast. The design intention for this 1.3km long and (in some places) 12m high earth mound, is for it to become a vegetated sound barrier for the emerging community of Harmony Estate.
