THE SPENCES BRIDGE BOAT RAMP
On a lovely December morning in 2013, parliamentary members Peter Walsh (Member for Swan Hill) and Paul Weller (Member for Rodney) gathered with 20 local dignitaries and onlookers to officially open the brand new Spence’s Bridge boat ramp.
Mawsons has been pleased to be a part of this $63,000 project which also includes increased parking spaces as well as the drop in ramp, providing greater access to the Gunbower Creek for residents and visitors. Mawsons concrete and Pyramid Hill crushed rock is both practical and unobtrusive in such a picturesque environmental setting. Extensive consultation with North Central Catchment Management was undertaken to ensure there was no impact upon local ecosystems.
The project was part of the State Government's Recreational Fishing Initiative, which has delivered more 60 local infrastructure projects like floating jetties, upgraded boat ramps, fishing platforms, stiles and fish cleaning tables.
The completion of the ramps coincided with the announcement of Fisheries Victoria's stocking program, which will see 80,000 juvenile Murray cod placed into Gunbower Creek.
"We are trying to increase tourism to the area, and this facility will help with that," Gannawarra mayor, Cr Neville Goulding said.
If you are out appreciating the upcoming autumn weather on the island – either by boat or by vehicle - Mawsons hopes you will enjoy this great new facility!
