A DIVINE DESERT SPORTS COMPLEX

Located in the desert setting of Los Cabos, a new sports complex has finished its first phase of development to deliver a beautiful outdoor tennis venue that complements the surrounding landscape.
Designed by Mexican firm Taller Héctor Barroso, the 5,000 square metre Cabo Sports Complex has completed its first phase of construction consisting of a sunken stadium named The Crater.
Hosting annual regional tennis tournaments, The Crater comprises of a 3,500 seated metal-framed stadium that can be assembled and disassembled, allowing the venue to be used as a private sports club during the off seasons. As well as the completed tennis venue, the first phase also included of the completion of three other tennis courts, a clubhouse, locker room, administration space and central courtyard.
Making the most of the picturesque surrounding landscape, the complex was carefully designed to highlight views and provide sun exposure, seen in the placement of windows and various openings. The complex walls are made from rammed earth which tie into the colours and textures of the surrounding landscape. The complex’s interior features is a steel framed grid that aids in providing structural support to the organic exterior façade. Wooden elements made from weather-treated pine can be found throughout the complex in canopies and beams.

The next phase of construction for Cabo Sports Complex includes the development of two more tennis courts, soccer and footballs fields and a food court. The sports complex provides a unique facility for sports tournaments that uses the desert landscape as its main inspiration to deliver a natural and exquisite form.
