A ONE-OF-A-KIND SKATE PARK
20 May 2021
Manufactured to last for many years to come, a new youth precinct in Gympie has become one of the biggest and best skate parks in Australia.
Nelson Reserve’s competition-grade youth precinct in the Gympie Region boasts everything from a climbing wall to a pump track, a skate bowl and flow area to viewing deck and street course. The open greenspace of the park features shade shelters, seating, bike racks, barbecue and picnic settings, and even a major event space.
Heka Group, one of the largest engineering companies on the Sunshine Coast, fabricated the stainless-steel, aluminium and steel components of the park.
As one of the biggest drawcards, the climbing wall has been designed for young people of all-ages to challenge one another, build strength and make friends. Fabricated in mild steel and painted in vivid colour, the wall presents demanding obstacles across three difficulty levels of climbing holds.
Ensuring longevity and strength for the structure, Heka Group coated the climbing wall in a three-coat epoxy paint system, along with the shade shelters. Providing weather coverage across the park is a series of uniquely sculpted shade shelters. Fabricated in steel and aluminium, these shelters provide ample viewing spots for the skate bowl.
Polished stainless-steel handrails and disabled access facilities installed ensure a safe site that is accessible for everyone, while also resisting corrosion and staining. Made to handle the harsh climate, powdercoated aluminium feature signage makes sure that everyone knows the rules.
Heka Group’s fabrication of the metal elements of the park and expert installation guarantees the durability and long-life of the Nelson Reserve Youth Precinct.
