A SURFACE IN CELEBRATION OF TRADITIONAL OWNERS OF THE LAND
16 Feb 2023
Celebrating the traditional owners of the land, MPS Paving recently installed its Streetbond SB coatings to the new Spirit of Tasmania Quay in Corio.
Alongside other hard and soft landscaping works being completed on site through a collaborative work with Tract, Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation (WTOAC) and local artists including Mark Trinham, Glenn Romanis and Helen Bodycomb, together the team developed a multi layered story through the landscape design and public art installation that celebrates both the traditional owners of the site and the nearby Cowies Creek for its fishing, food source, flora and fauna.
Three art sculptures were installed on site that convey the deep connection of the Wadawurrung people have to the land, sea and sky. As well as the importance of the Corio Bay as a sacred place to live, gather, fish and hunt. Expanding on this connection to country, a fully integrated Indigenous themed landscape was constructed including carved basalt mussel shells with hand-made mosaic inlays, locally sourced shell grit gravel and a variety of soft landscaping of Indigenous trees, shrubs and grasses constructed by local contractors BC Garden Constructions.
As well as soft and hard landscaping taking place on site, MPS Paving installed its high-quality Streetbond SB coatings to the surface of the Spirit of Tasmania Quay with a decorative surfacing of an Indigenous design.
MPS Paving’s Streetbond range can really rejuvenate any surface it is applied too. The colourful, textural coating can make virtually any surface look unique and stylish. The range of Streebond textured coating and paving paint is a practical solution to bring softness and colour to otherwise hard-formed surfaces and structures. Featuring anti-slip paint properties, the colourful surfacing can withstand high foot traffic and avoid slip hazards.
