A VERY MERRY PLAYGROUND IN BERRY
24 Mar 2022
Located in the heart of the regional township of Berry on the New South Wales south coast, the Boongaree Rotary Nature Play Park delivers an array of inclusive, exciting and challenging play experiences for the local and wider community.
With a vision to construct two distinctive nature-inspired play zones, Shoalhaven City Council drew upon the expertise of KOMPAN Australia and Play by Design, to deliver the Childhood Adventure Zone and the Youth Zone playspaces.
To bring the concept to life, the KOMPAN design studio conceptualised bespoke playground solutions that were not only aesthetically pleasing but encompassed attributes that would develop one's physical, cognitive, social-emotional, and creative skills.
From sketch to reality, KOMPAN's in-house designers were always mindful of the end-user’s experience. Ensuring the site would maximise play-value, was suitable for all whilst offering an integrated play experience with transparent and clear sightlines.
The designated Youth Zone was inspired by redback spiders and offers tweens and teenagers the chance to conquer a variety of physical and social play experiences. The high-capacity and flexible custom Octanet Sky Walk provides challenging yet thrilling climbing and sliding experiences from various entry points. Social interaction is encouraged as they climb alongside others. Other play features include a 36 meter Flying Fox, Saturn Carousel and a 360 degree Giant Swing.
To continue the entomology theme, KOMPAN created a striking custom ladybug play tower for the Childhood Adventure Zone. The linking towers and large climbing design generates above and ground level play opportunities. This is appealing and engaging to children five years and above.
At ground level, children can enjoy a mixture of fun, passive, social and sensory activities such as a Wheelchair Carousel, Springers, Sand and Water play, Jumpers, and Swings. .
The sense of adventure is ignited from the minute you cross the park's entry bridge, and a showcase of colour and texture welcomes you. The clever layout of the site creates an integrated experience, and the layered landscape offers additional sensory interest and allows the playspaces to shine.
Since opening to the public in December 2021, the destination playground has been tipping the top of family’s ‘bucket lists’ when looking for a weekend or school holiday and has been designed to boost economic growth for the regional community.
