The recent installation at Allnutt Park in McKinnon upgrades a beloved community play space with a new play unit that’s sure to be enjoyed by kids of all ages and differing abilities. Multiple platforms are connected by a maze of six ramps weaved between the existing shade structure, creating easy access to several slides, with low level balancing and more difficult climbing activities extending off the decks. Below the tallest platform sits a crawl tube and sensory panels for more junior play, creating opportunities for social interaction.
A primary accessible entrance to the unit is marked by a softfall rubber path extending from the existing concrete path to the ground level ramp, leading to further ramps to reach each of the three slides from Omnitech’s new CNC slide range. Two of the slides are double wide, providing greater ease of use for single users and enabling them to be used by two people at a time. Further accessibility is provided by a steel staircase leading to the lower of the two double wide slides, while the taller of the two has a gentler incline on the passage towards it.
For older kids and those looking for a challenge, an Activity Box is connected to the main unit with both an inclined rope bridge and commando tube for some more stimulating climbing activities. The combination of different elements within the frame inspires creative problem solving and social interaction, while providing different movement opportunities to the rest of the unit.
The playground uses a natural colour palette, with understated earthy tones along with striking greens to fit into the natural park surroundings and complement the brightly coloured shades overhead. Highlighting Omnitech’s commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility, Omnitech HDPE panels, slides, pickets and climbers all use recycled HDPE plastic. APR composite decking boards, which are made from an even split of recycled HDPE plastic waste and reclaimed wood waste, are used throughout the project on all the ramps. With all equipment manufactured in-house, Omnitech minimises waste throughout the production process.
