From sending floral arrangements to outer space, the deep depths of the ocean and into freezing temperatures, Makoto’s work is known for its extravagant experimentation of placing flowers in odd landscapes.
HANABI, is a reminder of the fleeting nature of life both for human and plant life and how these moments bring both beauty and delight to the world. Arranged in a tower formation, the floral arrangement consists of 50 different flowers sourced from across Japan.
Combing fireworks into the installation is an intentional move to represent the symbolic nature of fireworks to Japanese summers where nationwide an array of firework festivals take place. Since COVID, this year marks the return of these firework festivals, bringing delight to many Japanese onlookers.
This eruptive installation is one of many of Makoto’s works and we cannot wait to see what this great mind brings to the centre stage next.
