BUILDING PLAYSPACES IN BOROONDARA
03 May 2018
The team at Omnitech have recently completed two projects for the City of Boroondara that showcase the company’s versatility when it comes to creating innovative and creative custom spaces for play that encourage kids in imaginative activity.
Nicholson Street Reserve, located in Balwyn North, is situated in a beautiful shaded greenspace. The vast area incorporates a variety of nature-based elements including a traditional timber playground and swing set, complete with a basket swing that is accessed by a rubber path.
The play unit features a variety of play equipment suitable for all ages and encourages climbing, sliding and crawling. This play zone flows into the sensory play area and mound slide via timber stump steppers at varying heights.
The sensory area encompasses many different activities, including musical equipment and play panels, such as a traditional clock panel and shop counter. In keeping with the natural theme, this playspace debuts new Australian animal play panels: a kookaburra perched on a tree and an echidna with rotating tactile spikes.
The double-wide mound slide that was constructed around a mature tree provides challenging and easy access points made up of natural rock steppers, a rubber path and notched log balance beam.
Warner Reserve, located in Ashburton, is a new Aviation-themed playspace complete with a lookout tower and aeroplane play unit. The space caters to all ages, with activities ranging from climbing to sliding, balancing and imaginative play.
Sitting 2.8 metres above ground, the lookout tower is complete with telescopes and a windsock, and provides a challenge for older kids with a tall rock climbing wall, chain ladder and exciting tube slide. The aeroplane unit features easy-access decks and a small slide for younger kids, as well as a balancing Burmese bridge and swinging challenge ladder.
Both play elements strongly encourage imaginative play within the aviation them. Kids can work as a team in the lookout tower as they investigate or explore while practicing communication skills. The aeroplane play unit facilitates play that can encourage sharing skills and patience as the kids interact in an enclosed aeroplane. The balance of play equipment and imagination-based elements provides a compelling play experience.
Both the Nicholson Street Reserve and Warner Reserve provide creative and unique playspaces from the team at Omnitech that offer a range of exciting play opportunities that encourage fun and imaginative play.
