COST-EFFECTIVE SOLUTIONS FOR GRC
06 Feb 2020
GRC planters and GRC street furniture are excellent options for commercial projects, however they can prove to be quite costly. To combat this, Satu Bumi has implemented a series of initiatives to assist in reducing the price of its GRC products, without detracting from the quality.
When selecting Glass Reinforced Concrete (GRC) products, the pressure is on to find ways of keeping the total cost of the acquisition down. This overall cost includes both the price of the products themselves and the cost of transporting them to their designated destination. Therefore, Satu Bumi has implemented the following initiatives to assist in reducing the price.
REDUCED MANUFACTURING COSTS
Satu Bumi’s most significant initiative in reducing the cost of its GRC planters and street furniture has been the setup of its manufacturing facilities offshore.
Australia imported over $200 billion worth of goods and services last year. The onshore manufacturing of GRC is highly labour and floor-space intensive. Therefore, the cost of GRC manufacturing can be significantly reduced if it is produced offshore in countries with much lower labour costs and lower factory overheads than Australia.
Accordingly, even though Satu Bumi is an Australian company, it has gained significant cost savings by establishing its manufacturing facilities in Indonesia. This offshore manufacturing initiative has provided an excellent platform for producing very competitively priced GRC products for the Australian market, even after absorbing the cost of shipping from Indonesia.
REDUCED TRANSPORT COSTS
Satu Bumi’s second significant initiative in reducing the overall cost of its GRC products has been the establishment of third-party warehousing and dispatch facilities at the major Australian shipping ports.
Australia is geographically enormous and this is often reflected in the high costs Australian GRC manufacturers on-charge for transporting their products to different parts of the country. These transport costs become even more significant when large, awkwardly-shaped or extensive quantities of GRC products are involved.
However, Satu Bumi ships its products directly from Indonesia to its warehousing facilities at the major Australian port closest to its customers’ designated destinations. Then it only on-charges its customers for the costs associated with transporting its products from that port to the customer.
This transport cost reduction initiative can provide massive savings to the overall cost of acquiring GRC planters and street furniture for commercial projects and provides Satu Bumi with a significant overall price advantage when compared to in-country Australian GRC manufacturers.
