CROWNING GLORY OF WARRAGUL
10 Apr 2024
Set in the undulating hills of Warragul, a new place to live is under construction and its crowning glory are two sister parks by Melbourne’s leading landscape design and construction business: Fleming's Landscapes.
Crownlea’s first park is already completed and it’s certainly something to behold! Featuring a massive rock gorge, gulleys and dry creek beds, a sandpit with play-diggers, a cubby hut so cool you’ll want to live in it and a basketball court to boot, all is set among picture-perfect gardens.
A sister park featuring five smaller rock gorges winds down the scenic hill, providing additional places for residents and visitors to enjoy.
The parks are the brainchild of Fleming’s director, Wes Fleming OAM, one of Australia’s most celebrated horticulturalists, in conjunction with his landscape architectural team from Fleming’s Flow Design Studio.
Children, teenagers and adults alike will enjoy these spaces that include something for everyone. Families and friends can gather under the natural pergolas created by Tilia trees pleached into an umbrella shaped and designed to grow in together creating picnic areas that offer shade and a cool respite in the summer while, in winter when defoliated, the natural pergola allows the sunlight in.
A basketball court and chill out area offers older kids and young adults their own space, while all ages will love the sensory garden filled with musical instruments and sensory plants like ornamental herbs and flowers in a fun little exploration space.
Kids will whizz down a slide that sits atop of the gorge which is a unique play element while toddlers and younger children will enjoy the nature play spaces including a cute kitchen modeled out of wood, or scooping out sand in mini-excavators in the huge sand pit.
“The Crownlea Reserve 2 has been a joy to design and create,” says Wes of the experience.
“I really wanted to enhance the stunning topography and views of the site and ensure that the residents and people of wider Warragul had a space they really wanted to bring their families. We also wanted the parks to highlight what excellence in landscape design and the benefit of having the construction team from the same place – so we can achieve unique outcomes others wouldn’t dare consider.”
Fleming’s have been engaged by local family and development company, Jana Group, to design, construct and project manage the complete outdoor environment of this beautiful new community including streets, parks, reserves, and will also deliver front yards for all homes within the estate.
The only direction provided to the Fleming’s was to ensure the creation of a landscape that will be a legacy the family will be proud of – something these parks are delivering in spades.
“If you think this park is good, you will love the extension of this park in Reserve 3 – it’s going to be something very special indeed,” Wes explained.
