DARLING HARBOUR GETS REFLECTIVE
11 May 2017
As part of the Darling Harbour Live redevelopment, Stoddart was commissioned to custom fabricate a series of metal sign blades. The finished products – each 7-metres tall – provide a ‘reflective’ view of the well-known public space.
Custom built to suit every environment, Stoddart Infrastructure is able to design and manufacture both sculptural and functional pieces for every application.
Stoddart, as part of the enormous Darling Harbour Live re-development in 2017, were engaged by Lend Lease to manufacture and install 19 ‘sign blades’ along the central boulevard between the International Convention and Exhibition centre and the Tumbalong Park precinct.
Scattered along the boulevard in random groups of twos and threes, the blades each stand 7-metres tall and 2-metres wide and feature a mirror finish, designed to reflect the lights and surrounding landscape of the harbour region. Primarily serving as large LED display screens used for wayfinding and entertainment purposes, the stunning visual effect created by the signs in their surrounds makes them as much sculptural as they are functional.
Utilising a structural steel frame to mount speakers, power outlets, and large LED displays, the signs are clad in solid and perforated 316 stainless steel panels – serving as a fantastic example of Stoddart’s quality workmanship, attention to detail, and capacity for large-volume architectural metalwork in high-profile settings.
Stoddart is a trusted supplier for large projects where flexibility, experience, and a commitment to quality are crucial to delivering successful outdoor furniture solutions.
