A skate park in Western Australia gets a full fitout to ensure accessibility and an organic design.

Located in the Wheatbelt region of rural Western Australia, Darkan is a small town with a limited but lively population. A public park, Darkan Skate Park, graces the town to serve the inhabitants’ recreational needs. A recent upgrade saw the park receive an overhaul of its amenities to ensure inclusion and accessibility.

Undertaken by infrastructure specialists GX Outdoors, Darkan Skate Park was fitted with a complete suite of products ranging from table and bar settings to barbecues, drinking fountains and bin enclosures that integrated seamlessly into the natural environment of the rural region.

One of the biggest factors at play in the park’s upgrade was the inclusion of wheelchair accessible amenities. To ensure premium usability for the whole community, GX Outdoors supplied a complete solution with a powdercoated table and bar settings. As council wanted to ensure the new infrastructure blended with the natural environment, they chose a Western Red Cedar TimberImage finish over aluminium slats, giving the structures the look of timber with the longevity of modern materials.

The large shelter structure protects the new Edge barbecues from the elements and provides sufficient shade in the harsh western outback environment. Laser-cut screening featuring local flora and fauna provide protection on three sides of the shelter while still allowing air to flow
through. Timber-look cladding lines the roof for a seamless finish and inset lighting means the party can continue even after
the sun goes down.

The addition of Reviva drinking fountains provided by GX Outdoors ensure necessary hydration is always on hand. The arced design allows for easy access and features subtle ridges along its panel for controlled water flow. The Streetstyle bin enclosures, with the same durable powdercoated finish and modern lines, make keeping the park area clean and tidy an easy proposition. Corten-steel planters housing lush native plantlife pepper the picnic area, giving the space a tranquil feel and blending harmoniously with the park furniture.

Surrounded by a skate facility and playspace, the Darkan Park recreational pavilion lets parents watch over little ones in comfort and ensures a great day out for the whole family.
