Located in a sought-after area of Canberra, Founders Lane is a vibrant urban precinct softened with a touch of nature.
Situated in the suburb of Braddon in the ACT, Founders Lane, built by Chase Construction, is a mixed-use development that offers residents the best of city living. Its central location offers not only convenience for those working in the city but also an array of social and cultural possibilities. Restaurants, cafes, heritage experiences and retail opportunities all lie on the doorstep of this transformative new urban precinct.
Comprised of four buildings — The Mark, Provenance and Dawn, with Stage 4 still in construction — the surrounding area within the development is as important to the ebb and flow of traffic and what it offers the general public and residents as the buildings themselves. Built around a series of courtyards, the complex pulls natural light into the space, enhancing the use of the pedestrian- and cycle-friendly greenspaces that encourage a balanced lifestyle.
Drawing inspiration from Braddon’s famous Garden City legacy, outdoor elements such as landscaping are as well thought out as the interiors of the development and encourage a strong connection to the outdoors. A communal rooftop greenspace offers residents a place to gather and a community garden, along with lawn space and sheltered table settings and barbecues. Dotted throughout the attractive landscaping are large-scale GRC pots and planters commissioned for the project from Commercial Pots.
With more than 30 years of experience in the industry, Commercial Pots is an Australian business that values its relationships with its clients, and knows pots! Born from its sister company, Pots Wholesale Direct, which focuses on the residential market, Commercial Pots specialises in tailored solutions for commercial and civic projects. With an understanding of what it takes to meet stringent timeframes and adjust to budget constraints, Commercial Pots was able to fulfil the contract for JWLAND using its quality glass-reinforced concrete (GRC) range of pots and planters to achieve the natural look JWLAND wanted for Founders Lane.
Commercial Pots supplied the development with a series of GRC pots and planters in medium and tall, some of them up to 2200-millimetres wide and 1000-millimetres tall. Curved and robust, the varied shapes and sizes of this collection provided the ideal vessels for an array of large plants and small trees that blanket the precinct.
Glass-reinforced concrete is an ideal material for any scale of commercial project. One of the most versatile materials on the market, GRC is extremely strong, waterproof and amazingly lightweight. Incredibly durable, GRC also has a lower environmental impact than regular concrete and is incredibly flexible. Due to its composition, GRC creates quality pots and planters, or just about anything you need, and can be painted in a wide range of colours or finishes. Meeting specific design requirements is easy with GRC.
In keeping with the nature-based theme of the project, the GRC pots and planters supplied to Founders Lane were requested in two colours. Commercial Pots was able to supply them in a much-sought-after rust-like finish, which can be seen in the public courtyard areas on the ground level, and Dulux Monument, a dark charcoal grey that was used on the pots that went onto the rooftop to outfit the communal areas for residents.
Clustered in abundance throughout this extensive development, the GRC pots and planters used in this project bring nature into the urban environment and help support the feeling of home for the residents of Founders Lane.
