An imposing play structure offers the locals of a new residential estate a custom playscape that towers over the area.

Looking to get lost in an endless funscape? Try Barrabool Park at Mambourin Estate in Victoria. Here you’ll find a larger-than-life playscape that features a flying fox and nest swing, climbing wall and spinning wheel, along with a bike/scooter pump track, basketball court, cricket stump wall, footy goal post and a water play area. What kid could ask for anything more?

The foundation of the entire playground, two custom timber towers from play expert Omnitech Playgrounds offer a wealth of play value that will keep kids occupied for hours. Working in conjunction with Tract Consultants over a 12-month period, Omnitech designed, manufactured and installed the custom towers for Mambourin Estate.

Engineered to meet Australian playground standards while adhering to the architect’s vision, Omnitech’s inhouse designers came up with the concept of the two towers, which both have a height range of four to six metres — making them two of the largest towers the company has ever done. And they’re packed full of fun!

Fitted with multiple viewing platforms and a range of play elements, the towers offer an array of rope play — including a rope tunnel over four metres high that connects the sections of one of the towers — and cargo nets. A flying fox extends from a spacious viewing platform off one tower, stretching across 20 metres of softfall mulch for a thrillingly fast ride.

A range of educational games provides kids with a variety of play opportunities. Etched in mini-steel, images of Australian native animals are scattered across both towers. Children must find the animals and match them with their English and Indigenous names — making it a fun way to learn about the native animals of Australia.

A series of slides protrude from different heights off each tower, offering kids of all ages the thrill of rocketing down to the ground after climbing to a height they are comfortable with. For those that prefer quieter play, there are plenty of places to perch and watch the horizon or spy on the happenings down below. Swings, spinners, rockers and climbing frames round out the collection of this incredible playspace, ensuring it has something suitable for everyone regardless of age or ability.

Proudly Australian made, the materials for Omnitech’s towers were obtained in Australia from sustainable sources and manufactured in its factory in Somerton, Victoria. All the timber was hand-painted at the factory before being assembled onsite by Omnitech’s experienced inhouse carpenters.

Surrounded by easy-care greenery of ornamental grasses and low-lying shrubs, softfall surfacing and decorative landscape elements, these brightly hued play towers nestle into the neighbourhood comfortably, serving as a beacon to the young of the community that guarantees fun all day long.
