GRAND SCALE IN GRAND CENTRAL

Offering a bird’s eye view of the neighbourhood, this local park boasts a play tower that reaches for the stars.

High above the surrounding homes in the outer Melbourne suburb of Tarneit, Grand Central Park’s new play tower truly lives up to the name. Rising over 6.5 metres into the sky, the large, enclosed tower provides an exciting vantage point for local children to experience the landscape around them. Internal stairs and climbers give access to the long, wavy tube slides, while a large double climbing wall and a double cargo rope structure create more challenging access points into the tower.

Surrounding freestanding equipment presents a wide variety of play opportunities for visitors of all ages and abilities, with accessible rubber paths running across the space to connect basket swings and an inclusive spinner. Multiuser spring rockers cater to younger children, just as the more difficult freestanding challenge ladders, track ride and twirl bars provide greater challenges for older users that encourage physical development and exercise.

With inhouse powdercoating and steel manufacturing, Omnitech has the capabilities to ensure high-quality finishes on all products. The vibrant pops of orange and green on the Grand Central Park play tower complement the recycled timber-look Futurewood cladding — which are a sustainable alternative to timber with increased longevity. Omnitech’s CNC cutting capabilities were also utilised in the playspace, creating the underdeck sensory panel and native Australian animal imagery featured on the 4-way springer.

Natural timber logs and mudstone rocks carefully scattered throughout the play zone create distinct areas of engagement, providing children with another way to navigate the space and move between the various organic and manufactured play structures. A trio of climbing poles and a large timber teepee add further opportunities for imaginative nature play using organic forms.

Manufactured in Melbourne by a dedicated team of skilled fabricators using locally sourced materials, this Australian-made playspace highlights Omnitech’s commitment to high-quality projects that stand proudly for years to come.
