SERIOUS ABOUT FUN

A bushland setting creates the frame for some of the largest custom Cemer play structures ever installed in Australia.

Located in Alexandra Hills, Queensland, the newly upgraded Hanover Drive Park is the latest playspace to be upgraded by Redland City Council. The Council’s $1.5 million project has delivered a brand new space for fun and play for the families of the surrounding area. The space blends seamlessly with its surroundings and offers a host of play elements designed to entice children of all ages.

Redland City Council’s growing reputation for some of the most exciting parks in southeast Queensland has been bolstered by this dynamic destination playground. Designed by Redland City Council, the play zone within this park features a range of structures geared towards fun, while also providing plenty of physical challenges to entertain kids.

Wanting to create a space with inclusive play elements that remain sympathetic to the natural surroundings of the environment, Council turned to the play equipment specialists at Austek Play.

The vision for the space included a hero piece that offered elevated play and a tube slide. Council also requested unique freestanding and junior play items that would appeal to a wide user group. Meeting the brief for non-prescribed play opportunities, Austek Play was able to recommend equipment from their range of suppliers, including  equipment partners  Cemer, Hags, Omnitech and QUALI-Citè.

The centrepiece of the space is the Cemer climbing dome. The largest Cemer custom structure ever installed in Australia, it offers near limitless ways for kids to scramble, race, and climb their way to the cubby space at the top of the dome. From this apex, users can take the tube slide down to the ground before discovering a new way of getting to the top. The ideal balance of excitement versus perceived risk makes this unit especially popular with older kids.

The spinning dome climber is another highlight of this great park. Kids of all ages can hang on as they spin or scale the inner nets. The versatility of equipment supplied by Austek Play offers a high level of play value. Providing socialisation points and hanging points, as well as swinging and climbing options allow children’s imaginations to find new ways to engage with the equipment each time they visit, challenging them both physically and mentally. Combined with a feature-filled toddler unit and classic playground equipment such as swings, a see-saw and monkey bars, this playspace has something for everyone.

Spread across a layer of sand and softfall rubber, the playspace is edged with sandstone blocks that provide additional climbing challenges, while also complementing the natural surrounds. Rubber mounds, timber logs and squat stools lay scattered about to provide dimension and plenty of seating for little ones. A forest-like colour palette of greens and browns further enhances the zone’s seamless integration into the landscape, with plenty of mature trees providing natural shade.

Standing alongside other park facilities such as new picnic settings, shelters and barbecues, as well as seating, drinking fountains and landscaped footpaths, the playspace at Hanover Drive Park is a successful addition to the local community.
