In development since 2018 and released to the market in 2023, CoolTop^® was engineered with multiple goals in mind. By reducing the surface temperature of sports courts in hot climate conditions, CoolTop creates a comfortable playing environment for athletes, students and coaches, aiding them to stay cooler so they can play longer.

The technology behind CoolTop also assists with reducing the environmental effects of heat islands. While the concrete and asphalt used to construct sports courts causes a thermal mass, the application of CoolTop over the substrate cuts the amount of heat it absorbs.

WHAT IS COOLTOP?

CoolTop is a sand-filled acrylic sports coating with infrared reflective cool pigments. Designed and manufactured in Australia, CoolTop is the first sports coating to scientifically reduce court surface temperatures.

CoolTop uses infrared reflective pigments to reduce the amount of energy absorbed by the surface by reflecting heat away from the playing surface, rather than absorbing it into the acrylic coating and pavement. CoolTop’s use of infrared reflective metal oxides, in combination with infrared reflective organic pigments ensures solar reflectance.

Sunlight is composed of an array of wavelengths from the visible end of the light spectrum through to ultraviolet and near infrared light. The infrared range contains more than 50 percent of the sun’s energy. To reduce the amount of energy absorbed by a playing surface, a range of pigments, identified as reflecting light in the infrared range, are used in the CoolTop coating system to increase solar reflectance.

Real world and third-party lab testing confirm that CoolTop is effective in reducing heat absorption and the adverse effects of heat islands, supporting a primary goal of environmental sustainability efforts.

COOLTOP ULTRA & MULTISPORT

The CoolTop surfacing system is available in two types of finishes: Ultra and Multisport. CoolTop Ultra is designed with a finer sand and used for sports surfaces such as tennis and pickleball. CoolTop Multisport is designed with courser sand, for sports where slip resistance is important, such as netball, basketball and multisport surfaces.

Each CoolTop system comes in a range of vibrant colours specifically developed to maximise surface heat deference as well as produce visually appealing results.
