FROM LITTLE SEEDS, BIG THINGS GROW
15 Nov 2017
Fleming’s Nurseries is heading towards its Centennial celebration, reaching 100 years in 2018. What better phrase to describe their journey from 1918 to 2018 than, “from little seeds, big things grow!”
From what began as a small backyard operation growing fruit rootstocks for a local nursery, Fleming’s has flourished into one of Australia’s largest and most diverse horticultural businesses. Indeed, Fleming’s has grown into a lovely large oak tree bearing many branches.
With this exceptional celebration looming, it’s timely that the business makes another leap into the future with the official independent establishment of Fleming’s Landscapes. From October 2017, Fleming’s Landscapes now operates as an autonomous business, forming the third business unit under the Fleming’s Group of Companies banner - along with Fleming’s Nurseries and Birdwood Nurseries.
Fleming’s Landscapes started life in 2004 as a supply, installation and maintenance business known as Habittude by Fleming’s, in response to the need to ensure the success of mature trees in the new urban landscape.
That once ‘small’ arm of Fleming’s has grown over the past 14 years to the point it now encompasses three individual business units including Habittude by Fleming’s – the planting arm, Commercial Landscapes and Domestic Landscapes.
The business, still operating under the directorship of third-generation owner, Wes Fleming OAM, has grown into a fully integrated landscapes business that incorporates inhouse architecture design – focusing on broad acre greenfield development, landscape construction, garden design, street trees, domestic solutions in the volume environment and maintenance of all.
The diverse business is fully integrated and underpinned by the Fleming family heritage that supports its individuality in the marketplace.
“I’m not aware of another business like ours that can provide immediate and deeply understood landscape solutions for customers … it’s a one-stop scenario,” says Wes Fleming.
“Our inhouse architects work in close counsel with our inhouse construction team, our project managers and administrators all rub shoulders, and our plant people advise and consult on horticulture – all under the one roof. The results are highly practical but aim to drive outcomes in new urban communities that will resonate for many, many years to come.”
“I am delighted to see our business enter this era, where we are not only a supplier of high-quality product, but we have the professional and sophisticated ability to offer developers a solution from planning through to completion with everything inbetween,” he continues.
“What sets us apart is our ability to be accountable to every aspect of the landscape – from design to delivery – with front yard landscape packages, to the products that live in those designs.”
