GLEN EIRA CITY COUNCIL HAS IT IN THE BAG
14 Jun 2023
With more than 14,000 registered pet dogs in the City of Glen Eira, it was important for residents and dog owners to be fully equipped with the perfect dog poop waste bags, that were easy to access, strong, functional and biodegradable.
The answer was Biogone.
Since 2016, Biogone dog poop waste bags have been the top choice for City of Glen Eira.
With dozens of parks, crossovers and walking paths, including the ever-popular Pawfield Park, there are now 114 dog poop waste bag dispensers peppered across the 39km2 city.
According to Michael Feaver, Team Leader Open Space Asset Management, City of Glen Eira Council, prior to Biogone, the dog poop waste bags chosen were not biodegradable and did not have handles, making their impractical to use and not environmentally friendly.
“We spent a lot of time talking to the community, interviewing residents and conducting extensive research as residents took their dogs for a walk, to discover that Biogone was the top choice,” Michael said.
Michael is also very happy on the success of the dog poop waste bags over the last seven years of use.
“It is a significant investment for our city as we currently use two pallets a month with one pallet consisting of 64 boxes, and each box has 10 rolls, with 500 in each roll. And we provide this service to our community free of charge, a point of difference from other neighbouring councils.”
“We have also started using the rolls with 800 bags as the demand continues to grow.
“It is significantly important to have this product and service in our community as it created a much cleaner environment and residents are picking up after their pet dogs with more success. We know and appreciate that our residents love their dogs, and we urge them to venture outside and use the facilities around them. What we don’t love is dog poo and having Biogone dog poop waste bags in countless areas, has drastically minimised the issue.
“Our residents have been very clear and articulate that the Biogone dog poop waste bags ticks all the boxes when it comes to durability, sustainability and functionality.”
Biogone Co-Founder Dr. Ross Headifen is thrilled to see Glen Eira Council and other local councils make smarter choices when it comes to plastic.
“We understand that councils are seeking plastic dog waste bags that meet Australian standards. Biogone supports the ban of oxo-degradable and fragmentable plastics, and Biogone offers the best logical choice to help councils meet their sustainable goals with our landfill-biodegradable and home compostable waste bags, which help keep parks clean” Dr. Headifen said.
