HART OF PORT ADELAIDE

The historic Hart’s Mill and its new surrounding landscape is set to kick start the revitalisation of Port Adelaide.
The historic Hart’s Mill and its new surrounding landscape sit along the waterfront between Birkenhead and Hart Street Bridge. Its location and outlook make this an amazing site to visit and appreciate Port Adelaide.
The significance of the site stretches back to the construction of the Hart’s Mill building and the Adelaide Milling Co. flour mill in the mid & late-1800’s. At the time, the most high tech flour mills in the southern hemisphere shipping flour worldwide from Port Adelaide.
The idea for the project was driven by Renewal SA and a group of locals to transform the area surrounding Hart’s Mill into an open-air community space and kick start the revitalisation of the Port.
Designed by Aspect Studios as a family focused space they introduced a host of elements and materials sympathetic to the historical nature of the Hart’s Mill buildings.
Construction of the project was by a local company, LCS Landscapes, who have successfully delivered many highly detailed play spaces throughout South Australia.
This project provides an iconic piece of urban infrastructure that gives back to the community of Port Adelaide, and making it a destination for metro Adelaide.
With the project’s backdrop being Harts Mill, it combines a highly detailed urban landscape with a large playground all in the heart of Port Adelaide.
The success of this project is already unfolding with the establishment of weekly produce markets in the space and the area is packed with kids and families on the weekends.
