HEALTHY GREEN LIVING
05 Mar 2014
The Landscaping Victoria stand at MIFGS is titled Healthy Green Living and has been designed by award-winning designer Phillip Johnson.
The Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show attracts more than the AFL Grand Final with over 120,000 people visiting the show over five days, Wednesday to Sunday in the last weekend in March.
This year it’s tipped to be 150,000 plus.
Landscaping Victoria members have designed and constructed more than 80% of the stands at MIFGS each year.
In 2014, surrounded by the Exhibition Buildings and Carlton Gardens, the Landscaping Victoria stand has been designed by Chelsea Award Best in Show 2013 winning designer Phillip Johnson Landscapes. Stand size 10 x 10 sqm2; stand number A67.
The LV display is a project that will be run each year to ensure a strong presence at MIFGS. LV will give a new designer each year the opportunity to design a show garden and will give a new construction team each year the opportunity to showcase their skills.
The BriefLandscaping Victoria design is intended to be two distinct components.
Name of stand - Healthy Green Living
The idea is that our stand is spilt into 2 concepts:
Harsh ervironment to Oasis.
1. Show concrete jungle and the negative health issues with this type of display.
The front area would benefit from showing temp gauges. I.e. Weather Wall.
2. Is completely the opposite - show water, plants, low heat design materials, low stress garden etc. Stand transforms from harsh environment to a peaceful oasis wall gardens pond feature with vegetable garden herbs and medical plants.
DesignDesign is based on showing an urban environment and how it can be improved. Most of our current urban environments are concrete, many multi storey, but green space can still be created in them transforming the space to give insulation from heat.
The Design will associate the following ideas with healthy gardens.
- Vertical gardens
- Waterways, and natural pools - chemical free
- Native gardens (water-wise) Native Grass
- Rain gardens/water tanks
- The effective use of irrigation in gardens
- Materials choices
- Licensed landscapers
- Timber recycled
