Botanix Plant Supply is a wholesale nursery dedicated to the production of a high-quality range of native, exotic, deciduous and evergreen stock at competitive prices. What can Botanix do for your landscape?
Botanix supplies a large range of trees and shrubs to commercial and domestic landscapers, developers, councils, trade markets, planting contractors and plant brokers. It has an ever-evolving range of stock in a variety of sizes, from 30cm pots to 400L bags.
Winter is bare-root season and represents a period of intensive labour for Botanix in preparing for and producing excellent quality stock from deciduous bare-rooted plants.
Production staff are industriously working to prepare the nursery for an influx of fresh-from-the-ground, bare-rooted stock. Preparation is key to ensure that a large of volume of plants are transitioned to containers efficiently and effectively.
Once the nursery is prepared and the incoming stock is delivered, the horticultural staff commence the task of priming the plants for potting. A systematic and consistent approach to the plants needs and requirements ensures a high standard of containerised plant.
First, staff carefully attend to root pruning, ensuring consistency and quality in every plant, giving them their best root structure and setting them up for the long-term.
Once pruned, the plants are potted into suitable sized containers. Botanix produces plants from bare-rooted stock in a wide variety of sizes from small to well-established trees.
Subsequently, the potted plant is distributed to its growing location in the nursery, where it is settled in. The plant is watered in and any canopy is given a formative prune to produce a desirable shape. Now it is ready to grow come spring.
By spring, the bare-rooted plants have started to come out of dormancy in the nursery. However, the journey to production begins much earlier the year before.
Production planning commences when Botanix makes its own order for bare-rooted stock, usually in October or November the year before. This extended lead time is necessary to accommodate the significant processes that are involved in the production of bare-rooted stock.
Botanix Plant Supply works with a key group of trusted suppliers, sourcing bare-root stock well in advance to ensure continuity of supply. The ongoing relationship Botanix has established with these suppliers ensures that there is a seamless workflow to production of plants onsite at the nursery every year.
At each stage of the process, from pre-production, to production and finally getting the plants to market, the nursery team is working away behind the scenes to keep to a strict production and supply timeline.
Given the long lead time involved in supplying bare-rooted stock in pots, Botanix encourages clients to visit the nursery and inspect stock ahead of time, to allow orders to be made sufficiently well in advance.
By ordering in advance and securing plants for delivery in the future, also known as contract growing, customers can ensure that they do not miss out on what they want to buy, or need to substitute or compromise on plant size. These complications can be easily avoided by planning for future plant needs early.
Botanix Plant Supply has a dedicated team of stock and production planners who are meticulously managing bare-rooted stock ready until ready for market. Botanix is constantly reviewing the varieties grown, as well as producing a core range, and responds very quickly to changes in trends and demand in the marketplace.
