INCLUSIVE ALL-ABILITIES PLAYSPACE

ParkEquip has had the pleasure of working with Holroyd School to create a magnificent playspace for the school community.
Holroyd School is located in Merrylands, NSW and provides educational programs for students with moderate and severe intellectual disabilities. Many students range in ages between 4 to 18 years and many have multiple disabilities.
A playspace was required to cater for the junior side of the school. A design that not only provided an outdoor space to play, but also catered to the varying needs of the students.
Built around a central Playbooster Structure that features wheelchair accessible ramps leading to two large deck areas where there is plenty of room to rotate mobility devices and wheelchairs around. There are climbing options for the students that require an active playspace and a fun double slide. Integrating wheelchair accessible sensory panels all within the same play unit, means the design provides a fully inclusive play experience for children of all abilities. A place where the children can all play together.
At ground level the children have lots of activities to keep them busy. There is a high Geoplex Climber for the more daring students, a large Vivo Metallophone that is also wheelchair accessible and ground level sensory panels.
But the fun doesn’t stop there! The Chatter Noodle talking tubes encourage verbal communication and the Chill Spinners provide a fun way for the children to challenge the vestibular senses. The Chill Spinner’s height makes it the perfect personal spinner with easy access from a wheelchair via transfer.
The play area also features a water pump, dry creek and timber bridge. Each item in the design was chosen to ensure that the children’s educational and sensory needs were met through play.
ParkEquip had an absolute blast putting this playspace together and seeing the children’s smiles and hearing their laughter while they are using the equipment reminds the team that everything revolves around play!
