When did you become President of the Sports Turf Association?
August 2000 and have proudly worn the title ever since.
How did you get into the sports turf industry?
From my early days as a teenager I always had an interest in sports and sports field maintenance. I was very fortunate to start work at a sports field in country NSW before heading to the big smoke to take on studies at TAFE with my first city job at Sydney University.
What has been your career highlight/s to date?
Making it to the top at a major venue, Sydney Olympic Park (ANZ Stadium). Also, being able to play a major role in the development of the sports turf industry has been a notable highlight.
What is the primary aim of the Sports Turf Association?
To provide an industry body where members feel like they belong; an association for all levels of the industry providing education and networking opportunities in a fun and welcoming environment.
What activities is the Sports Turf Association involved in? What’s planned/coming up?
Our next event is a workshop on weed identification and control on July 8. We are also running our annual Regional Seminar at Kurri Kurri TAFE on August 18 and the final event for the year is our charity fundraiser on November 13.
What can we expect from the Sports Turf Association in the future?
Our aim is to have a bigger base of members, stronger connection with sporting bodies and a higher profile to promote the professionalism of the sports turf industry.
