LAST STOP RESTROOM
30 Nov 2017
An important element of the $900,000 upgrade for the Rainbow Beach area of Queensland, a coastal restroom from Landmark Products proves a sturdy public amenity that’s up to the task.
In a convenient location along the magnificent Rainbow Beach in Queensland, a new restroom designed and installed by Landmark Products is often the ‘last stop’ for visitors to park region – and features a heck of a view!
The design of the seven-cubicle public restroom in Laurie Hanson Park, Rainbow Beach, is inspired by the awesome coastal views witnessed from the park. This coastal-themed design will be replicated for all new beachside structures in the Gympie Shire Council.
The restroom’s construction was part of a $900,000 upgrade by Gympie Regional Council, which also included new play equipment, shade structures, picnic facilities and barbecues.
Located near the access road where 4WDs begin their trek to Rainbow Beach and Double Island Point, the restroom will be heavily used by those coming and going and was therefore designed specifically to withstand the highly corrosive environment and heavy traffic it will endure.
The modified Coastal (skillion) restroom features fully-dressed hardwood batons, bordered by signage in the front and painted timber posts. This eye-catching signage consists of two layers of powdercoated aluminium bonded to a timber panel.
The structure itself includes two female toilets, a unisex accessible parents’ room, a unisex cubicle, a unisex ambulant, a unisex accessible cubicle and a male urinal with four wall-mounted urinals behind a privacy wall.
Two wash basins sit in the lockable access corridor at the front, and a service duct at the rear ensures all toilet services are protected from damage and easily accessed for repair and maintenance.
All internal and external walls are made from 12mm fibrous cement (FC), and the roof includes eight opaque panels for natural lighting. LED lights are fitted throughout to maximise safety and usage times.
Landmark designed and installed the facility, which was delivered to the park in flat-packed kit-form. As all components of the restroom were pre-cut, installation was quick and required only a minimal use of power tools, limiting the disruption to the busy park as much as possible.
Truly a ‘loo with a view’, the new facility will provide convenient amenity to park users for a long time!
