The City of Parramatta’s ambitious plans for the Metro West will create a new housing and entertainment precinct at Rosehill.
More than just a new precinct, the Metro West will provide improved connection between this area of greater Sydney and the CBD. According to Lord Mayor Cr Pierre Esber, adding as many as two additional stations to the Metro line between Parramatta and Sydney Olympic Park, including one at Rosehill, is an investment that would pay dividends for the next 150 years. “This is not just building a Metro, this will build a city within a city, a new city the size of Albury-Wodonga,” Cr Esber said.
The adjusted Metro plan, combined with the full delivery of the Parramatta Light Rail, will better connect people to Parramatta’s growing arts and cultural district, its five universities, and a world-class medical, education and research precinct.
Cr Esber notes that while Parramatta will be sad to lose Rosehill Racecourse, which has been a part of the community for almost 140 years, the legacy would be homes for thousands of families close to transport, open space and a true heart for Greater Sydney. “Metro West will be our generation’s Sydney Harbour Bridge, forever changing how people move around Sydney.”
