MARNONG ESTATE
05 Apr 2018
With a heritage spanning 100 years of growing expertise, it was only fitting that Fleming’s Nurseries was engaged to undertake a specialist garden redevelopment program at the heritage destination development, Marnong Estate, in Mickleham.
The $35 million project is in full swing with works well underway for what will eventually become a 2000-acre estate featuring the historic homestead accommodation, a day spa, event centre and restaurant. Development plans also include a vineyard, brewery, piazza, maze, farmer’s market and cattle farm.
The team at Fleming’s were engaged to restore and rebuild the staged landscape for the project, which has already seen a stunning avenue of poplar and ash trees installed, and the redevelopment of its historic gardens almost complete. It is fitting that this elegant heritage estate’s landscape will be brought to life by a company that has been around as long as the estate itself.
The project requires a sophisticated pallet of horticulture skill, including identifying, relocating and replacing the plants and salvageable elements of the heritage gardens surrounding the Marnong Homestead. Other works include the restoring and laying of new bluestone garden borders, installing turf and more.
The team have painstakingly designed elements of the new garden to maintain the period style of the home, which includes a functioning kitchen garden and a reenvisaged ornamental garden that surrounds a new restaurant and function centre.
This highly specialised project has greatly benefited from Fleming’s hands-on approach with a team of dedicated plants specialists who have ensured careful consideration of the various plants species within the garden.
The project will be staged over the coming years with the final result expected to attract tourists, day-trippers, weddings, special events and more.
