NEW PLANT VARIETY
26 Mar 2014
‘Misty Sunrise’ is a new beauty from Ausflora Pacific and will be showcased at this year’s Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show.
A new selection developed in the Ausflora Pacific nursery, Leucadendron ‘Misty Sunrise’ has lovely misty grey foliage which turns a stunning red from late summer until spring.
Misty Sunrise is a Leucadendron salignum hybrid,it grows 1.5m high x 1m wide and is suitable for many garden situations, but can also be grown in pots. This selection holds its red colour over the winter months better than some of the other red salignum selections such as ‘Jack Harre’ and ‘Red Countess’.
As with most Leucadendrons, ‘Misty Sunrise’ is drought tolerant and also frost resistant to -5˚C.
Misty Sunrise will be one of the varieties Ausflora Pacific is contributing to the Tree & Shrub Growers display garden at the Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show (MIFGS) 2014.
Some tips for growing Leucadendron ‘Misty Sunrise’:
- It requires free draining soil
- The soil should be slightly acidic
- It will require a good pruning once a year before next year’s growth appears (usually September-November) to help maintain size and shap
- It prefers full sun
Misty Sunrise will be available in 140mm(6’) and 200mm(8’) from April 2014.
