The area between Brisbane and the Gold Coast is often referred to as a “growth corridor.” Yarrabilba is one of the fastest-growing suburbs along this corridor. This community is a sustainable, master-planned suburb siting halfway between the two cities. It has firm ties with its Indigenous history (Yarrabilba means ‘place of song’ in Wangerriburra/Bundjalung language), however, the community is also invested in the innovations of the future. Yarrabilba, a development by Lendlease, is expected to reach 45,000 residents by 2041.
Eureka Landscapes has been principal contractor on a number of projects within Yarrabilba since 2012. Aiding Lendlease in the construction of open spaces and parklands, which make up over 25 percent of the development.
The Eureka Landscapes team recently completed a new park for the community, Neumann Park in Wickham Rise. The park is enveloped in the lush, green surrounds of Plunkett Conservation Park and extensive eucalypt forest. Neumann Park takes full advantage of its mountainous backdrop and views to Wickham Peak.
Designed by AECOM, the park consists of balance beams, slides, swings and a rock scramble, allowing children of all ages to roam through the nature-based playground. Visitors can also admire the two rock shelters that boarder the park and connect it to the Traditional Owners of the site.
Maintaining the integrity of the surrounding site was Eureka Landscapes main priority when constructing the park. The two rock shelters located at Neumann Park are part of a much larger network of sandstone rock shelters on the sandstone ridge that borders Yarrabilba, Plunkett Conservation Park and Wickham National Park. These are the only two ground level rock shelters although many others are located high up in the sandstone escarpment.
