PAVERS - THE OUTDOOR SURFACING ALTERNATIVE
18 Nov 2015
Using pavers instead of concrete adds a unique design element to any outdoor space. Paving provides a visual link between areas, allowing for easy flowing outdoor spaces such as driveways, pools surrounds, courtyards and pathways.
With a range of paver styles in a variety of stone, clay and concrete materials on the market, there is no shortage of inspiration for creating unique and attractive, yet functional and hard-wearing paved spaces. From domestic to commercial project, pavers are a versatile alternative to a concrete slab.
Materials in the Raw stock a wide variety of pavers including clay pavers, natural stone pavers, concrete and wetcast concrete pavers from Australia’s best paving suppliers. We stock pavers suitable for driveways, pool surrounds, courtyards and pathways.
A dominant feature in most homes and large scale buildings, the driveway is an important feature in creating street appeal and adding value to a property. A well designed paved driveway can make all the difference.
There are generally two types of pavers suitable for driveways - concrete or clay. Our concrete pavers are made to high standards and are available in a variety of colours and styles. Due to their finish they will tend to have more traction than poured concrete. Clay pavers are made from heat cured clay and are available in warm earthy tones such as tan, gold and sand.
Much like the importance of aesthetic appeal in a driveway, the pool/entertaining area is also an important extension of any outdoor space. A good design will complement both the building and the outdoor area, creating a platform to transition from one space to the next seamlessly and safely. Pavers are a logical choice to create a flow from indoor to outdoor spaces.
The main types of materials used for pool/entertaining paving are clay, concrete and natural stone. Natural stone is durable, resistant to general wear and tear and is non-slip due to the natural pitting. Natural stone does not have the fading common in concrete pavers, and colours will age over time.
When choosing a concrete product, quality is paramount. Consider wet cast pavers, which are made from a denser concrete than cheaper pavers, making them less porous. Our pavers are made in patterned moulds that provide an endless range of styles and finishes to complement any design.
Clay pavers come in earthy tones that blend in well with surrounding gardens. The natural texture means they are non-slip and they will age rather than fade over time. Availability in smaller sizes for both pavers and copings makes them ideal for use with curved edges and gives flexibility with design shapes.
There is an almost endless use for good quality pavers. Pavers from Materials in the Raw are backed up with extensive sales experience and product knowledge. If we don’t have what you want – we will get it for you.
