PLAYGROUND TAKEN TO NEW HEIGHTS
02 Jul 2020
An old warehouse in Alexandria, Sydney, has been converted into a childcare centre with an imaginative rooftop playspace that features natural materials, painstakingly installed by the team at Scapeworks Australia. Take a look.
Delivering and placing the products onto the roof of the warehouse was a challenge that Scapeworks Australia successfully overcame.
The company's unique fleet installed certified Playbark softfall, Certified Playground Sand, Nepean River Pebbles and soil media to the rooftop. The hose ran up across one roof and down another to reach where the playground is situated. The team are trained in working at heights and wore harnesses during the construction phase.
Scapeworks Australia Project Estimator Chris Furnari said, “We were engaged by J&JJ Landscapes to install various products to a new play area on a Level 2 rooftop. Due to the challenging access, we needed to run our hoses over a Level 3 rooftop, before dropping back down to the install area. The job ran very smoothly with great communication from the landscaper and architect throughout the works.”
The Hills Playbark softfall and The Hills Playground Sand are tactile and fun products that are tested against Australian standard 4422:2016 to ensure they are suitable for use. These products encourage creative play without relying on formal playground equipment.
This rooftop play area was cleverly designed by Black Beetle and built by J&JJ Landscaping. The design ensures that even on a rooftop in an inner-city suburb, children can experience nature in a comfortable play environment.
The final item to be included will be a stylish and practical shade sail.
This unique rooftop project required problem-solving to deliver correctly tested product into a difficult to access site. Scapeworks Australia's team provided the solution with great success.
