Southbank’s Riverside Green Playground has taken out the Parks and Open Space Award of Excellence at the 2016 AILA Queensland Awards.
Southbank’s, Riverside Green Playground has taken out the Parks and Open Space Award of Excellence at the 2016 AILA Queensland Awards. This award is given to the work judged by the jury to be the most significant for the advancement of Landscape Architecture in 2016.
The collaborative minds behind the project; RPS, Urban Play, Eureka Landscapes and City Parklands were honoured to receive the highly coveted industry award at the awards night cocktail event.
The jury of experts stated, “Riverside Green Playground is a complete reimagining of ‘play’ in the busy heart of Brisbane’s South Bank, enhancing the existing qualities of this popular public parkland. An outstanding collaboration between Landscape Architect, play consultant and client has resulted in a colourful and inviting play space offering children (and adults) an astonishing range of experiences in a surprisingly small space.”
The 1.7m refurbishment, inspired by Southbank’s famous Bougainvillea arbour, bursts in hues of vibrant pink, green and blue. Ranging from toddler to teens and parents in between, age appropriate play equipment has been carefully assembled in the play precinct, providing four challenging yet safe play environments for children of all physical and intellectual abilities.
