PLAYSCAPE CREATIONS’ TRIPLE WIN
21 Jun 2018
The recent QLD Parks & Leisure State Conference Awards saw Playscape Creations playing a key role in each of the winning projects for all three of the major Playspace Award categories.
Taking out the top ‘Park of the Year’ award was Lions Park Gladstone – a major highlight of the evening for Playscape Creations who worked under Gladstone Regional Council in partnership with design consultants JW Concepts and HNK Projects.
Inspired by Leonardo da Vinci and boasting an Australian first “seven senses” design, Lions Park Gladstone is a stunning space that caters for people of all ages and abilities. It incorporates unique play and sensory features, designed and built by Playscape Creations specifically for this project, and is a truly inter-generational park that encourages users to be active, social and connected.
Comments from the judges of the prestigious award said the park showed “Evidence of a unique approach to playspace design, using the seven senses approach, mixing tactile, auditory and visual experience with a focus on day and night use”. It is a “Large and creative space, visually appealing and incorporating play and recreation based on the seven human senses, with extra effort in design to ensure suitability for all abilities and ages”.
The project was ultimately delivered by JM Kelly Constructions with the Playscape Creations team working closely with their programme to provide the Artistic Playground and Sensory items and helping to ensure a seamless delivery of this amazing space.
Lions Park was also awarded a High Commendation for the Playspace >$500k Award, while the winner went to Centenary Lakes in Cairns.
Playscape Creations worked on this design with LANDPLAN Landscape Architecture. This innovative natural playspace within the surrounds of the Botanic Gardens has been designed to help children explore and interact with nature, get their hands dirty and let their imaginations run wild, with non-prescribed play opportunities. The double swoosh slide – the steepest on the market – adds a fantastic sliding opportunity to the “Turkey’s Nest”. Additional bespoke handmade resin inlay features and glass fibre reinforced concrete fossil digs, add to the discovery experience.
Playscape Creations’ design and engineering expertise, in addition to their broad product portfolio from ‘off the shelf’ play items, bespoke ranges and customised pieces, sees them involved in a broad range of projects.
Pioneer Park, winner of the Playspace Award <$500k, is another example of the company working with their clients to go above and beyond their requests. Specialised inclusive play equipment has been designed into this Sunshine Coast playground extension, with an inclusive, all-abilities focus to complement the existing play experience.
The roller slide installed into the embankment has been a highlight for visitors of all abilities – providing much needed deep tissue stimulation for some, a non-static sliding experience for others and general good fun for all! Other sliding combinations, an inclusive We-Saw and inclusive two-bay swing that ensures the play elements met Council’s needs. Playscape Creations’ design flexibility saw they that as they were able to work with Council through design solutions and modifications throughout.
For flexible bespoke designs, unique play environments and exceptional service, Playscape Creations’ team works with their clients to deliver award winning playspaces.
