Plants Direct Queensland strive to produce trees that once planted, grow strong and rapidly to maturity.
Plants Direct Queensland use the best industry practice methods to produce plant life of the highest standard. The team’s commitment is to the highest production standards to ensure the long-term success of its trees in a landscape.
Since early 2000, the company has embraced and incorporated the benchmarks recommended by Specifying Trees: A guide to assessment of tree quality written by Ross Clark, which outlines a criteria for a quality tree. This guide, also known as NATSPEC, has become an industry benchmark for production nurseries, landscape architects, designers, arborists and local governments in Australia.
The Australian Standard AS2303 Tree Stock for Landscape Use, published in 2015, together with NATSPEC are the guidelines by which Plants Direct Queensland manages its production nursery, ensuring its pruning, staking, potting and root pruning procedures produce trees that are:
- True to type and display nature form for the tree species
- Self-supporting at time of delivery as a result of correct staking techniques
- Have a well-formed trunk with good stem taper that is strong and straight, as well as centred in the container
- Healthy and vigorous, showing consistent growth
- Free from pest and disease
- Free from injury
- Balanced and have an even crown
- Fibrous, robust and well divided root system
Guaranteeing its stock is to AS2303 and NATSPEC standards, Plants Direct Queensland provides certification by an accredited arborist and a tamper proof tag with each tree.
