Save water and money with the new organic, moisture retention product Soil Sponge – perfect for lawns and gardens.
Menai Sand & Soil has released a new Australian, organic moisture retention product called Soil Sponge. Soil Sponge is fossilised sponge that will greatly increase the water holding capacity of planting mediums.
Soil Sponge is 99 per cent silica based, and silica helps protect plants against fungi and pest attack as well as greatly improving flowering and fruiting.
Soil Sponge will not break down, nor will it change the soil profile (like gels and water crystals can). It does not have a limited life span unlike other non-organic products.
With Soil Sponge, the depth of planting medium required in planter boxes and roof top gardens will be reduced. This saves in medium costs and installation costs. It also reduces the medium weight on roof top gardens.
Soil Sponge will also save on the frequency of watering, with the loss of water through the soil profile now trapped by Soil Sponge. Water is then released back to the plants as the soil dries. With the trapping of moisture, any liquid fertilisers will also be trapped and then released back to the plants over an extended period.
