STORMWATER PROTECTION WITH DSTORM
01 Nov 2018
The DSTORM® is a gross pollution trap (GPT) that protects stormwater from pollution. It is a direct screening device that uses sedimentation and filtration to retain gross pollution, suspended sediments, and oil from our waterways.
Suitable for a range of applications, the Durham’s DSTORM® GPT can be installed into new developments or retrofitted onto existing drainage. Its modular design provides flexibility in construction and configuration. It can be designed to treat very high flows, with its generous sump volume providing ample storage aptitude.
DSTORM® has been specifically designed with construction and maintenance in mind to reduce costs associated with construction and maintenance processes, thus providing a long-term cost-effective environmental solution.

A COST-EFFECTIVE SOLUTION
The DSTORM has been especially designed to capture pollution across a wide spectrum, whilst simultaneously self-clear between events. Manufactured in Australia, the DSTORM is made with top quality concrete and stainless steel.
DSTORM’s stainless-steel screen has been designed with Smooth Bar Technology (SBT)©, ensuring the screen is so smooth that pollution slides down between storm events, restoring treatable flows. SBT© is superior to other direct screens, which commonly clog prematurely. The DSTORM’s SBT©, coupled with the screen’s aperture, ensures it will capture even the smallest gross pollution, sediments, and oil, but also self-clear between events.
The DSTORM has been especially designed for extremely easy access to 100 percent of the device for monitoring and maintenance, including beyond its screen.
No other device allows for such simplified access, especially behind the screen to clean. This is a huge design flaw and real maintenance issue, as over time breakthrough builds up and eventually blocks the screen, causing devices to become non-operational and useless.
The DSTORM is designed so its access covers sit on opposite sides of the device, allowing for this all-area access. With no internal moving parts, the DSTORM is cleaned simply with a combination unit from outside the device, eliminating the many WHS issues commonly associated with GPT cleaning. This ensures monitoring and maintenance remains safe, efficient, and cost-effective in the long term, allowing the GPT to successfully serve the environment for as long as possible.
The DSTORM is designed so its access covers enable easy access to 100 percent of the device.
DSTORM APPLICATIONS
Applications for DSTORM® include stormwater systems, pump stations, substations and stormwater harvesting for commercial, residential, industrial, and local government projects. Contact waterquality@duham.com.au now to find out more on the DSTORM’s impressive capabilities.
INDEPENDENT TESTING
The DSTORM underwent rigorous testing at UNSW’s Water Research Laboratory (WRL), and proved to capture 100% of gross pollution, and 72.6% of suspended sediments. This testing mimicked real life circumstances, with the suspended sediment used being consistent with the MUSIC particle size distribution (<1mm).
These results prove the DSTORM can provide amazing benefits for the environment.
DURHAM’S COMMITMENT
