STREETBOND™ SURFACING A FEAST FOR THE EYES
02 Mar 2016
MPS Paving add the finishing touches to a new sports stadium in Port Moresby, applying their successful surfacing system – StreetBond™ - to great effect.
The new Lloyd Robson National Football Stadium is a state-of-the-art facility located in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. The asphalt surfaces of the stadium’s surrounds were recently completed by MPS Paving, with decorative touches applied utilising the successful StreetBond™ surfacing system to create a dramatic artistic finish, as well as provide delineation for traffic areas.
MPS Paving Systems, in conjunction with Creative Pavements from South Australia, were contracted by Leighton Contractors to bring to life the Architect’s vision for the Port Moresby stadium. With excellent support from Leighton, this was achieved in spectacular fashion over the course of two weeks. During this time almost 2000sqm of plain black asphalt was transformed by MPS into a black and white geometrical feast for the eyes.
A unique basket-weave pattern was created for the project, with line detail achieved through the use of custom cut tape prior to spraying.
Although several aspects of the project were challenging, including the weather and the location, the versatility of the StreetBond™ surfacing system assisted in bringing the project to completion on time and with a professional finish.
The final results achieved on the Lloyd Robson National Football Stadium project really illustrate the flexibility of the StreetBond™ system, and proves that whatever an architect can dream up, MPS Paving Systems can make a reality.
