SUNSHINE HEIGHTS PRIMARY SCHOOL

Sunshine Heights Primary School in Victoria has implemented a stunning layout of bright and eye-catching free-play Streetbond™ art that encourages the kids to create their own style of play.
As the school year commenced, students and staff at Sunshine Heights Primary School Victoria, were greeted by a myriad of colours on the school pathways. MPS Paving Systems Australia Pty Ltd has recently completed this amazing StreetBond™ project, featuring coloured lines and an eye-catching sun-dial design showing the date and months of the year, together with the school’s logo.
Jeff Nelson, a member of the Buildings and Ground Sub-Committee at the primary school, and a landscape architect for the City of Melbourne, came up with the idea of a free-play design. This encourages the children to make up their own games and strategies for play by utilising lines, shapes and colours. Each concrete pathway now resembles a map of underground train lines and destinations, with multi-coloured lines branching off and overlapping, leading to different areas of the school.
Jeff took his design to the computer and meticulously refined his idea on CAD, selecting the colours that he thought would have the greatest impact, analysing at aerial shots of the school, and consulting with MPS Paving Systems Pty Ltd to pick samples to colour-match with the concrete in bright sunlight.
The Sundial was incorporated at a late stage of the planning process as a way of avoiding the “status quo” of hopscotch and four-square lines, ultimately creating a unique centrepiece for year-round enjoyment.
MPS Paving Systems StreetBond™ range can rejuvenate a myriad of surfaces, by using colourful textured coatings to make any surface look unique and stylish. It can bring your imagination to life, transforming dull, boring and tired surfaces into works of art, making commercial buildings, business or homes stand out.
