The twists and turns of the track provide opportunities for children of all ages and abilities to experience a range of biking conditions in a protected environment. With traffic lights, pedestrian crossings and roundabouts built in, cyclists can learn the road rules and develop safe riding skills. The bike track includes a beginners area and an adventure trail for more dexterous riders.
With a course designed to be inclusive, the track includes hills, curves and bridges to challenge riders of all skill levels. There is also a range of entertaining additions that mimic urban conditions, such as post boxes, tunnels and ‘refueling’ stations.
The kids bike area is linked to the rest of Sydney Park via a series of connecting pathways, providing ample opportunity for parents to join in the fun once the little ones have gotten the hang of the road rules.
There is a ‘Wetland Explorer’ path that educates riders on the nature of the wetlands that are so much a part of Sydney Park, and plenty of other interesting things to do as you peddle your way around the park. Barbecue facilities, picnic and seating areas, and public amenities are all available when it’s time to park the bike and take a rest.
Sydney’s Lord Mayor will officially open the new kids track in Sydney Park on Sunday 15 November at 11.30am.
