SYDNEY SET TO GET NEW CITY CENTRE
28 Feb 2024
Australia's newest city, Bradfield City Centre, will be built in the heart of Western Sydney near the Western Sydney International Airport.
Bradfield City Centre is to be the first Australian city built in over 100 years. Connecting directly to the new Western Sydney International Airport, due to open in 2026, the billion-dollar project is going to be one of the largest urban developments in Australian history.
Western Parkland City Authority have described their vision for Bradfield City Centre as “a beautiful and sustainable city that will be green, advanced, and connected to world-class transport” for 22nd-century Australia. Bradfield City Centre is designed to be a '30-minute city', with public transport making everything the CBD has to offer accessible within 30 minutes. Spread across 144 acres, it will be five times the size of Barangaroo, and will include retail, cultural hubs and sprawling green spaces, as well as 10,000 new homes.
Sustainabilty will be at the heart of the new project, with a major focus on public transport with car-free streets. Design will also focus on environmental principles and heat reduction, with Western Sysdney getting up to 10 degrees hotter than the rest of Sydney during summer.
It will be connected to the rest of Sydney via new road and Metro developments, with Sydney's Metro West playing a key role in making it a well-connected hub.
The visionary project is expected to generate 200,000 jobs. While the first stage of the development will be completed to coincide with the opening of the airport in 2026, the overall city is expected to take 50 years to be fully completed.
